Interview with Anna Beyer – Bartender at Barcelona West Hartford

1. What is your favorite cocktail to make at Barcelona? In general?
Barcelona gin and tonic at work and I like to try to recreate them at home too.

2. How do you handle a big rush at the bar? Does it stress you out or do you stay calm?
I stay calm and focused. I tend to become stoic and quiet to get it all done.

3. What is your favorite memory working as a bartender here so far?
New Years Eve this past year, we were dancing on the bar and Cava got sprayed everywhere and everyone was having a great time.

4. What is your idea of the perfect cocktail?
Bitter with different components that are surprising. I like when flavors change as you drink it.

5. What would you be doing if you weren’t bartending?
I like to stay busy. I am in school for fashion marketing. I have a fashion blog and I work at Anthropologie.

6. Do you have a favorite bar to go to?
Any places in Manhattan

7. What is the best pick-up line you’ve heard at the bar?
People have given me business cards with “call me, maybe” written on them.

8. Do you prefer beer, wine or cocktails?
Cocktails.

9. What inspires you?
Art, museums, reading, fashion, blogs, drawing and fashion design.

10. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t sweat the small stuff.

11. What is your biggest pet peeve?
When people give me a hassle about carding them.

12. Where is your dream place to live?
Barcelona or Los Angeles.

13. What is your favorite sports team?
Miami Heat.

14. What is the last song you were listening to on your iPod?
House music on SoundCloud.

15. What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
Decided to drive to Las Vegas from Los Angeles.

16. What is your favorite vacation spot?
Ana Maria Island in Florida. It’s so relaxing. You can wear flip flops and no makeup all day.

17. Who is your role model?
My mom and my fiancé.

18. Describe your personal style.
It depends on the day. Some days I like to be a tomboy and just throw on one of my fiancée’s t-shirts but other days I like to dress up and be really girly.

19. What drew you to bartending?
It was the next step up. I always wanted to be a bartender because it is fun and you really get to experiment.

20. Have you ever learned a new drink from a customer?
All the time, I have a couple that always comes in and they have an app on their phone called Bar Notes. They find drinks that sound good and I create them. It’s a great way to learn new drinks.

21. If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Invisibility.

22. If you could choose between being a singer, actor or athlete, which would you want to be?
An actor or a ballerina.
